Winners of the 1st Art Competition

Congratulations to the winners of the 1st Goolum Goolum Art Competition for young people 9-19 years. 


The winners were : 
1st prize  : Danae McDonald (age 10)
Danae's entry said : 
1. Life's an adventure because it can take you on many different tracks and you never know what each day will bring.
2. Life's better when you've got people that care and love you.
"It was pretty surprising how I won and that I got over $100 !"


2nd prize : Bianca Lauricella (age 10)
"I feel happy that I came second !"


3rd prize : Ben Cooke-Harrison (age 15) .
"It's sensational !" .

Drawing and Painting Competition

Goolum Goolum is now calling for entries for a drawing and painting competition from local Aboriginal youth aged 11-19 years. Artists can use any type of drawing or painting medium. Each person can enter a maximum of 5 drawings or paintings. The theme of the competition is Life is ? So whatever your drawing or painting, we’d like to explain in 10 lines or less, how it relates to the theme.
DEADLINE : 5pm, Tuesday 26th April, 2011. Winners announced on the 3rd May, 2011.
ELIGIBILITY:  Open to Aboriginal youth aged 11-19 living in the Wimmera-Northern Grampians region.
ENTRY FEE:  Free
JURORS:   Richard Hudson, Johnny Gorton and Kim Drummond
AWARDS:  All entries will be exhibited on our blog slide show. Winners will be featured on our Facebook page and our blog. All entries will be placed on exhibition in a public space.

Ø       The winner will receive $300 cash and have their photo taken and feature on our Facebook page and blog.
Ø       The runner up will receive $50 cash and have their photo taken and feature on our Facebook page and blog.

TO ENTER :  Pick up an entry form from Goolum Goolum or Budja Budja and send it in with your work. Please bring in drawings or paintings to Goolum Goolum, before the due date. All entries will be photographed for entry onto the blog slideshow.

Arts Competitions

This year Goolum Goolum will be running a series of arts competitions for young people. Categories will include : drawing and painting, short story, poetry and song writing, digital art, digital photography and short film. 

While our focus in primary on youth aged 11-19, we encourage younger kids to also submit their entries. Prizes of $300 will be offered to the winners and $50 to the runner ups. In addition, you’ll have you’re work displayed on our blog here : http://deadlywicked.blogspot.com/ and in a local exhibition space. So come on, show us what you’re made of and let those creative juices fly …

Staff Driven Youth Activities for 2011

Staff at Goolum Goolum have been exploring the possibility of running numerous activities for young people in the community in 2011. Below is a summary of what we have planned. Let us know what you think. 

Girls
  1. Pampering day – Nails, hair, makeup, dress, poise
  2. Shopping trip
  3. Visit to the markets
  4. Culture day
  5. Girls camp
Boys
  1. Fishing
  2. Shopping trip
  3. Culture day
  4. Boys camp
  5. Final camp for boys and girls
Activities are for young people 11-19 years of age.
A final camp for boys and girls.
Also to come - are bimonthly arts competititons with financial prizes, a blog and exhibitions.

A Wicked Welcome

Hey Dudes, welcome to our blog. I'm Richard H the coordinator of the Deadly Wicked Youth Committee & programs associated with us. To let you know, this is a place where members of the youth committee will be able to share what they're up to with the world. Expect to see updates of all the groups activities, plus home made videos, songs, poetry, music and artwork. Also expect to hear about the programs the guys and gals have been part of and the projects that they're developing.
